Garage Remodeling Ideas
By Luat Tran Van
You need more space in your home, but you do not have the budget to put up an addition; moving is out of the question, so what do you do? Look around your home. It depends on the type of extra space that you need and what you need it for. A walk-in closet or deep enough closet can become a nook for a desk or compact office. A large linen closet can also be used to fit a desk. Most of us have rooms in our homes that we do not use. Sometimes, to get the space that we need is a matter of breaking the mold and reuse rooms the way we need them and not for what they were built in the first place.
An easy and cost effective way to add more space to your home is by remodeling your garage. Most people park outside their homes anyway, and sometimes the garage is just being used to store junk that they do not use. If you have a basement or an attic to use for storage, there is no reason why you should not convert your garage into extra space that you can use for the need at hand.
A garage is conveniently located next to your home if it is attached, and if it is not, you can prepare it so it has a heating system and proper lighting so you can use it. This is still less expensive than putting an addition. You can use your garage for an office, a workshop, an art or music studio, a playroom, a home office, and even a club or entertainment space. If you do not have extra storage and your garage is the only place to store items, then you can consider adding a small shed to your yard, which can be bought at your home remodeling center, and are usually not that expensive. Another alternative is to rid yourself of excess and keep in your home the items that you use only.
With proper design, you can convert your garage into a multifunctional room, to accommodate various needs and functions. You can designate separate areas and use divisions. You can benefit from an attached garage because it already has the necessary wires, heating, cooling, and plumbing nearby. It is just a matter of making some adjustments that will not be too costly compared to adding an extra room.
Before giving up thinking that you do not have the extra space, or budget to do an addition, review the needs of your family, do some room rearranging, and get rid of everything that you do not currently use. Then see if you can find the space that you need, by using another room or your garage.

Improving Security in Your Home
By Luat Tran Van
Sometimes, you feel like a prisoner in your own home. You may be afraid of opening or answering your door. This may be because you do not want to deal with canvassing people, or are being extra careful after hearing news about scammers that will try to get in your home. It is the world that we live in, and we have to learn to deal with our feelings about it as well as being proactive about our home security.
Improving security in your home should be a priority whether you have a large family or live alone. Security does not mean expensive alarm systems or gadgets only; it also means practicing common sense when dealing with strangers, as well as modifying your home to make this easier.
To keep the nuisance of unwanted company away you should put a barrier between the door and the road or street. You can have a fence with a locking gate, which will prevent strangers from going inside, especially solicitors or salesman. If you have a barking dog, it can prove useful to put a beware of dog sign, even if your dog is an inside pet. Most people will think twice before going in a property that has that type of sign, even if you do not have a dog. Motion detector lights are good too.
There are many types of alarms that you can use in your home and will not cost you a lot of money. Some are battery operated and do not need wired installation. Some attach to the windows or to the doorknob. When the knob is touched or turned, the alarm sounds a high pitch noise. The same happens when the window is opened. This will scare away any intruder. Make sure that you replace the batteries as needed if you use this type of alarm. Another tip is to put an alarm sticker in your window, even if you do not have one. This will send a message to any person that is thinking about intruding. If budget permits, invest in an alarm system. You can find them in many prices and with many features to suit your budget.
You can also invest in a surveillance system. There are many types available and you can even put a small single camera in your front entrance. These are usually not expensive and you can even find them in stores such as Wal-Mart. If you can afford it, a more sophisticated system is also a good idea. If you cannot fit it in your budget, there are fake surveillance systems that do not actually work, but that give the impression that there are cameras in your property. These are becoming more realistic these days, compared to the cheaply made ones that were made many years ago.
Using common sense and precaution is the best way to keep yourself and your family safe. It does not matter how many security systems you have in place, without safety precautions and common sense they will not be enough.

Improve The Look Of Your Home With Cheap Area Rugs
By Colin Garza
Most of the time when you move into a new home or decide to remodel, you forget one of the most important decorating rules. Decorate from the ground up. Since what sits on the floor is most important, then maybe you should consider inexpensive area rugs.
What is so great about inexpensive area rugs?
Inexpensive area rugs allow you to have the styles, designs, patterns, and colors of the more expensive rugs without having to pay the price. If you don't care that you don't own the 'real thing' and would rather have a cheaper flooring solution, the inexpensive area rug should be your first choice.
Many inexpensive or wholesale rugs are cheaper because of the fibers they are made of. Many cheaper rugs are not made of New Zealand's finest 100% wool but rather made with synthetic fibers such as olefin, polypropyline, and nylon. What's really great is that these fibers can last just as long and don't cost as much.
There are a few items to consider when buying an area rug for your floors. What are you going to use the rug for? Is it going in the kitchen, living room, outside, dining room, bedroom, or maybe even the playroom? This is something you need to decide. Obviously, if you are going to buy a rug that will endure much use, such as in a playroom, you don't need the world's finest.
Secondly, how big does the rug need to be? Most rugs don't need to cover the entire floor to add to the look of the room. Most of the time a simple 4' x 6' rug will do great. If you do want to cover the entire floor, be sure to leave at least one to two feet between the rug and the wall. This look much better.
Thirdly, what colors or patterns do you want in the rug? You might want to get a rug that draws attention to itself. These rugs need to have sophisticated patterns and bright colors. On the other hand you might want a rug to draw attention towards another piece of furniture or object in the room. These rugs need to be simpler and match the room's overall look. Don't be afraid though to mix and match rug styles with the rest of the room. For example, modern rugs with their bright colors and outrageous designs can go well with a traditional look. All in all make sure that the colors and patterns match and you will be fine.
Last of all, don't forget the rug pad. Rug pads will add a bit of cushion while holding the rug in place so it won't slip beneath you. The best part about the rug pad is that it makes the rug easier to vacuum.
Remember, inexpensive area rugs are a great solution to give your rooms a new look. Look for them the next time you are shopping or surfing the net and will be surprised at the amazing rugs you can buy for such cheap prices.
